Medieval Anachronists' Club (MAC)

The members of the MAC study and recreate all aspects of life in the Middle Ages. Some members study arts such as calligraphy, illumination, languages, heraldry and sewing. Other adult members study the European martial arts of fighting with armour, shields, and weapons such as swords,
spears, and axes. Some other members study fencing and archery. We stress honour, safety, and participation over competition. Learn by doing!

We have feasts about once a month where members wear period clothing, share period food, and sing old songs. Our members usually focus on European history, but anyone willing to study and share their knowledge of other cultures is very welcome! We have bi-weekly meetings in J-7. Some of our members participate in other off-base events, including the Pennsic War, which is held every August in Pennsylvania. There are usually 15,000 attendees to this three week camping event, which includes battles involving more than four thousand fighters.

Shotokan Karate Club

The CFB Gagetown Shotokan Karate Club offer classes to both junior’s (6 – 12 years) and adults (13 years +). Classes are held at the Base Gym where instruction is given by a 4th degree black belt. The value of the art depends on the one applying it. If the application is for good purpose, then the art is of great value. One who studies karate must purge himself of selfish and evil thoughts, for only with a clear mind and conscience can he understand that which he receives. For more information, contact Sensei Randy Hennick at 357-3642

CFB Gagetown Jiu-Jitsu Club
Bouei-Ryu

The CFB Gagetown Jiu-Jitsu club teaches traditionally based Jiu-Jitsu.This Dojo is Chartered and insured with the World Kobudo Federation, the head Sensei is Shihan Robert Kranstz, from Milton ON. His style is CJA (Combined Jiu-Jitsu Arts), which blends the traditional styles of Kodenkan, Hakko-Ryu, Small Circle Jiu-Jitsu and Goshindo. Gilles Turner, the chief instructor of this Dojo has 15 years of Jiu-Jitsu experience and 20 years of Martial Arts experience; and is currently ranked at Nidan (2nd degree black belt) in this style of Jiu-Jitsu.
Translated, the Dojo name means Self Defense – Style Jiu-Jitsu. This Dojo teaches stances, throws, locks, blocks, strikes and chokes; some weapon defenses and basic weapon uses are taught to senior belts. Grappling is practiced but is not emphasized as in Brazilian styles of Jiu-Jitsu. Students can compete, but it is not a requirement or the main goal of this Dojo. The goals of this Dojo are to supply a safe and interesting learning environment, improve fitness, teach practical self-defense, help build self-confidence and improve character. This is a demanding system so previous injuries should be assessed before training. Due to the practice of joint manipulation, there are no classes for people under the age of twelve. If you have any questions please drop by Tuesday or Thursday at M2 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. or call WO Gilles Turner at extension 2279 or 446-6082 after 5 P.M.
