BODY FOR LIFE
MASSAGE THERAPY CLINIC
What is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is a hands on manipulation of soft tissues of
the body (muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and
joints) done with knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
of the bodies structures in a scientific manner for therapeutic
results. Treatment procedures aim to rehabilitate, maintain
and/or improve physical function and reduce pain and stress.
You and Your Massage Treatment:
When you come in for your first treatment, you will be required
to fill out a health status form to make sure Massage Therapy
is safe for you. Then, your therapist will review your health
status form and perform any assessments that may be needed,
as well as explain what your massage therapy session will entail.
A pain scale of 1-10 (10 is high) will be used to determine
a good pressure depth so you will not be too sore after your
treatment. At times, soreness or stiffness is common after a
massage session, but it should only last 24-36 hours and should
feel like a good work out at a gym. No actual pain should be
felt during or after the massage treatment.
After the treatment is complete the therapist should recommend
how often you should seek massage therapy for your condition.
Most massage therapy sessions are one hour in duration, but
may vary depending on the injury. Massage therapy is covered
by most extended health care plans. A doctor’s referral
may be needed. Be sure to check your plan.
